John Wayne’s pistol was a straight-shooting, honorable hero in the truest sense of the word, and this classic Western replica pistol wall decor art is a stirring way to pay tribute to the legend. Exclusive to The Bradford Exchange, this first-of-its-kind collectable features a striking replica of the Colt Peacemaker revolver that Wayne carried in his famous Western movies. The holster is detailed with a full-colour portrait of the Duke against a red rock Western landscape, while the simulated ivory gun handle features iconic imagery. A sculpted sheriff’s badge and one of the Duke’s famous quotes complete the design.
John Wayne’s Pistol: A Closer Look at His Iconic Firearm
Throughout his long, illustrious acting career, John Wayne played many characters in various genres but his best known roles were as U.S Marshals, lawmen, cowboys, and in particular as Rooster Cogburn in the Oscar-winning film True Grit. Whether firing his Winchester 1892 Saddle Ring Carbine or cocking his trusty Colt Single Action Army revolver, the Duke always gave it his all in every scene.
In a career that included dozens of Westerns, Wayne also appeared in several war films. In The Fighting Seabees (1944), for example, he portrayed a Navy construction officer who rallied his troops in the Pacific theatre during WWII. The Duke’s character even got to use an M1 Garand rifle.
While the Duke’s gun play in many of his low-budget B-Westerns was not historically accurate, it helped to convey his message that good must stand up to evil—even if it meant some violence. It is for this reason that the Colt Peacemaker with its mellow ivory-looking stocks has become a symbol of the silver screen Wild West.
